Job applicants are expected to be experienced technicians or installers with technical school training or past work experience.
Must be knowledgeable with heating and A/C systems repair: mechanical, electrical, and electronic components such as motors, compressors, pumps, fans, ducts, pipes, thermostats, switches, burners, solar panels, condensing units, evaporators, refrigerant lines.
Technicians must be able to maintain, recover, diagnose, and correct problems throughout the entire system. Technicians must have own tools and test equipment.
Installers must be able to read contracts and install specifications noted on job proposals such as where to place equipment, install fuel and water supply lines, air ducts and vents, pumps, and other components. Connect electrical wiring and controls and check for proper operation to ensure proper functioning of the system! Installers must have their own hammers, wrenches, metal snips, electric drills, pipe cutters, measurement gauges, and acetylene torches. Must be able to use voltmeters, thermometers, pressure gauges, manometers, and other testing devices to check airflow, refrigerant pressure, electrical circuits, burners, and other components.
Must be able to pass criminal background check and pass a motor vehicle background check, must be able to lift 75 lbs. and must be able to use proper lifting techniques.
Must be able to work in all types of environments - homes, schools, stores, office buildings, factories, rooftops, anywhere inside or outside in cold or hot weather. Must be able to work in awkward or cramped positions. Must use all safety measures to avoid hazards like electrical shock, burns, muscle strains, and other injuries from handling heavy equipment. Must be able to work at least a 40-hour week. During peak times, must be able to work overtime.
